Are your pet’s fleas transferring their affection to you?

Cat and dog fleas are the cause of most flea complaints on humans. The fleas lay their eggs on pet bedding, on carpets and on your soft furnishings. When a warm blooded being passes by the fleas can enjoy their first meal – it could be the cat, the dog, mum, dad or worse still the kids!

This explains why we still experience problems with flea bites, despite equipping our pets with flea collars or subjecting them to special injections etc.   It also explains why many families, returning from their summer holidays, find their homes infested with fleas and are bitten almost the moment they walk through the door, even though the pets may have been in kennels.

fortefog2A ForteFog aerosol is handy if you see fleas hopping on the carpet.

trapIif you are concerned about using pesticides in the home, buy an Electric Flea Trap. These traps attract fleas to a sticky pad.  These traps are safe to use close to where your family pet sleeps.

Do you have a problem with bed bugs?

Many hotels suffer from bed bug problems and consequently bed bugs have become a problem at home following holiday/business trip stays in hotels.

Infestations at home begin when bed bugs are brought in on luggage.  Apart from their enhanced ability to hitch a ride from bedroom to bedroom, the main reason for bed bugs’ recent success is that they are difficult to kill.

The bed bugs hide themselves away in crevices.  They only feed on blood, so they cannot be attracted out of their hiding places by insecticide baits and they are tough little insects.  As they live in bed with us, it is not a good idea to apply large quantities of insecticide without care!

To get rid of bed bugs use Oa2ki powder with a Mini Dust Applicator – our Home Bed Bug Control Kit.   The little blighters have a low tolerance to this powder and an added advantage is it is not a risk to people.  Apply it where it matters - puff it into those narrow cracks and crevices where bed bugs might lurk.  Look for joints in beds, bedside furniture and bedroom fittings; under dado and picture rails; beneath the edges of wallpaper. Check the mattress particularly tucked into the piping around the edge and under the buttoning.

If you do need to treat the mattress, leave the dust in place for 3 days and then vacuum up the dust. Do not use the mattress during the period of treatment!
